I just got the news that I’ve been accepted to She Should Run’s 2018 Cohort!

She Should Run is a non-profit organization with the huge goal of getting 250,000 women running for elected office by 2030. Founded in 2011, they provide a starting place and network for women leaders considering a future run for office.

This year, She Should Run was seeking applicants for a four-month program to prepare candidates to run for office. After going through the rigorous application and interview process, I was really excited to find out today that I was accepted to the Summer 2018 program!

Although I am confident that I have the skills to be an excellent Town Trustee, the campaigning process is a little bit scary. I’m all about honesty and transparency, and I hate the idea of having to “politic” and look for votes! I’m hoping that the She Should Run cohort will teach me the nuts and bolts of what I have to do, while also helping me develop a campaign style that’s authentic to who I am and what I believe.

With two strong women leaving our Board of Trustees this year, that leaves only one female left on the Board. Sandie Hammerly has done a fantastic job of improving communications and transparency since she was elected in 2016, and I want to join her in getting more residents involved in our community. I think it’s incredibly important for our Board of Trustees to have a diversity of perspectives for better decision-making, and I’m excited to cast my hat into the ring.
